Leo is a young man in his middle 20s who bikes from Seattle to New York City with his best friend. Their girlfriends were planning to join, but one of them tore her ACL and the other accepted an internship in NYC. Along the way, Leo’s friend dies in a freak accident. Instead of ending the trip early, he decides to press on. When Leo reaches Manhattan, he stays with his grandmother, who has lived alone since her husband passed away.
Amy Herzog has written a very funny play that touches on a few taboo topics. It also includes some very dramatic and heartfelt scenes. The characters are very well developed.

At 105 minutes, it is quite long to not have an intermission. There are plenty of scene changes where it can be easily added. Since this would add to the runtime slightly, starting at 7:30pm would be ideal. Join the Pro-Intermission movement here.
Layke Fowler (It’s Only A Play) is excellent as Leo, who is a bit lost in his life upon his arrival. Marssie Mencotti is so sweet as his grandmother, who gently asks many questions in a caring manner. Erin Minervini is great as Leo’s girlfriend, who is upset that he went AWOL during the summer. Lastly, Mollie Peery is very joyful as the New Yorker whom Leo meets during his stay.
Overall, it’s a fantastic play that is very entertaining and will have the audience thinking and talking for long after the curtain call.
