A Sharp Wit! Alonzo Bodden at The Den Theatre (March 21, 2024)

Alonzo Bodden now lives in Los Angeles, but he is often in Chicago to tape “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me” on NPR. He has a great radio voice and a sharp wit, which makes him perfect for the show.

Tonight he talks about having a friend who is a short person. He says that only 15 years ago, it was acceptable to call him a midget. His friend quickly responds that only a hundred years ago, it was acceptable to call him the n-word!

He thinks that accidental racism is funny He hears a friend tell someone that they are looking pale and must not be feeling well. So, white people can detect health problems in each other by how white they are! This is not the case for black people. You’ll never hear a black person say to another, you are looking a few shades lighter, are you doing okay?

Later on he jokes that women use three times as many words as men. He says he posted this joke online and a woman responded with 4 long paragraphs about how he was wrong. His response was perfectly simple, “Thank You.”

Alonzo kept the audience laughing throughout the night with his wit and his charm. He’s a true professional comedian that is definitely worth seeing live.
