Cracking Everyone Up! Theatre 68 Presents I’m Not A Comedian… I’m Lenny Bruce at the Biograph Theatre (Through April 12, 2024)

Lenny Bruce was a stand up comedian that pushed the envelope of his time. He was put on trial for obscenity for using words like cocksucker. He was eventually convicted and sentenced to 4 months at Rikers Island. However, he died of an overdose of morphine before serving his sentence at the age of 40.

The show expertly blends together his career with his personal life. He married Honey Harlow, a stripper from Arkansas. Their relationship was very tumultuous. Their daughter, Kitty, was born in 1955. She is a producer of this show.

Ronnie Marmo’s (Bill W and Dr Bob) performance as Lenny Bruce is very impressive. It’s a 90 minute one man show without an intermission. The best scenes are when he is doing standup with the old fashioned microphone, cracking everyone up. In these scenes, he has a great charming and funny attitude. The show is expertly directed by Joe Mantegna (The Simpsons).
